Capital City Freeze Tournament

4th Annual Capital City Freeze Tournament
The Springfield Youth Hockey Association (Illinois) will host the Fourth Annual Capital City Freeze Tournament on November 14-15, 2009, at the Nelson Center in Springfield, Illinois.
During its first three years of operation, this tournament hosted teams from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Ohio.
This year’s tournament will consist of play at the following levels:
Mite A
Squirt AA
Peewee AA
Bantam A
Each division of play will consist of four teams that will play each other in round robin format with the top two teams advancing to a championship game and the next two teams vying for 3rd place in a consolation game. Each team will play four games – two games on Saturday and two games on Sunday.
Teams will play all games on Saturday and Sunday.
Other tournament features include the following:
*** Team entry fee of $675. This is one of the least expensive tournaments in the Midwest
*** Skills Competition on Saturday
*** Each player will receive a ticket to the Springfield Jr. Blues game on Saturday Night at the Nelson Center. The Junior Blues are a Junior A team playing in the North American Hockey League. They will play the St. Louis Bandits – national champions during the last three years.
*** Each player will receive a trophy or medal
*** The tournament will recognize family members and friends of hockey players who served in Armed Forces. Veterans will also receive free coffee all weekend and will receive a service pin from their branch of the Armed Forces.
In addition, Springfield is the home of Abraham Lincoln and there are many historic and educational sites, along with museums, within the community. Most of these sites are within a few miles of the Nelson Center. You could visit some of these sites between games.
